CONSCIOUS CONNECTS: MUSIC INDUSTRY INTENSIVE 2024

Conscious Connects is a practical skills development day for aspiring and practicing artists and music industry workers in Western Sydney and beyond.

This event included intensive workshops and seminars developed for practitioners at varying stages of their journey in the music industry. Attendees gained practical skills, insights from industry professionals, engaged in hands-on activities, were provided take-home resources, and networked with fellow music professionals.

In 2024, Conscious Connects explored three key areas of the music industry:

  • Practice: Creative processes and business skills

  • Performance: Booking and preparing for live gigs

  • Release: Promotion and administration tasks

Workshops and networking opportunities exploring different aspects of these topics ran simultaneously, allowing attendees to engage with the sessions most relevant to their specialty area, interests and career stage offering valuable guidance for the next generation of creative talent.

  • Workshop Session 1A: Behind the hits: Production secrets for high-quality music

    What’s this session about: Uncover the secrets behind the music-making process with BeatswithSheph. This session will guide you through the key steps in production, from preparing a demo to mastering the final sound. Led by the team behind some of Australia’s top artists, this workshop will equip you with insider techniques, industry standards, and real-world examples to help bring your best work forward, ready for the world to hear.

    Workshop Session 1B: From hobbyist to entrepreneur: Levelling up your music career into a thriving small business

This session is for artists, managers, producers, and content creators looking to transform their creative pursuits into a career. With practical advice and strategies, you’ll learn how to navigate the business side of the music industry. This session will help to provide you with the tools you need to make that crucial leap from hobbyist to industry professional.

  • Workshop Session 2A: We talkin’ ‘bout practice?: How to get you ready for live performance

    What’s this session about: Every great performance starts with great preparation. Join L-FRESH The LION from Village Boy Entertainment for an interactive session that covers the essential steps to getting you stage-ready. Learn the best practices for rehearsing, fine-tuning your performance skills, and building confidence for live gigs. Mainly geared towards artists, however audio technicians and producers will also benefit from the tools and techniques shared in this session.

    Who’s this session for: Aspiring and early career artists, but also suitable for audio technicians, and producers who are new to the music industry.

    Workshop Session 2B: Gig guide: Tips & tricks for navigating the live music scene

    What’s this session about: MusicNSW’s Conscious Connects workshop covers key aspects of navigating the live music industry, from understanding tech riders, to working with venues, managers and booking agents. Participants will explore a range of resources in budgeting, grant writing for live shows, and practical tips for collaboration and connecting with community and audiences.

  • Workshop Session 3A: Protect your work & get it heard: Step by step to registering music with PPCA & APRA AMCOS
